Friar’s Bush Graveyard

Friars Bush is located adjacent to the Ulster Museum, Friars Bush is reputed to be one of the oldest cemeteries in Ireland. Dating back to the fourteenth/fifteenth century, both the cemetery and the website, at www.friarsbush.org are well worth a visit.
In that era, Friars Bush was a renowned Mass Station in Penal Times to which the friar would be smuggled across the River Lagan and the heavily wooded area surrounding to say mass beside the thorn bush.
